Hi everyone. Until I started looking for help, I never even thought
there was a group like this!
I have an above ground pool which has about a 2″ hole in it (we had a
storm and the canopy went in the pool and broke the liner). Not
thinking it was too big of a deal, when we went to fix it, there was
a big hole where the sand washed out and the patch won’t hold. Does
anyone have any idea of what we could put in there so we can get it
to hold?
I would like to thank anyone who can help me!!

I assume that the water went out of the pool. I was under the impression
that once the water is out of the pool, the liner is no longer usable, since
it shrinks. Anyone else hear this?

Yup. A previously wet liner, left to dry in the sun for a few days
will shrink - to an extent. How bad it actually shrinks is
dependant on age, climate, and vinyl gauge.

btw… it sounds like your liner is shot. sorry. the best you could
hope for is a huge piece of extra liner, and lots of glue. We used
to keep fairly large pieces around.
Maybe look at it this way…depending on where you live, swimming
season is only for maybe another month or so, maybe longer. It
might be worth your while to try a quick fix ’til the season is
over, then buy a liner when they go on sale during the “off season”.

Take the liner out, regrade the sand under the pool and replace the liner.

How do you get to the sand without removing the liner?

I wanted to thank everyone for their help. We’re just trying to
patch the pool until the end of the year and I came up with a great
idea myself — put sand in a couple of baggies and shove it in the
hole. The sand will shape however you want and the hole will be
filled. It’s a quick fix.
Thank you everyone,
Diane

Hello, my name is Angela.
That is what happened to us. The hole made the water leak out and then the
liner shrunk. We had to buy a new liner, cost about $120.00 for a 16 ft
round pool 4 ft deep. However in NJ where we live it has been too hot to do
the work to put the new one in.
