The first thing to do is determine how many gallons your pool has in it. You
did not state the depth so I cannot tell. Formula LxWxaverage depthx7.5 or a
rectangular pool. Next is to check the manufacturers specs in the pump and
filter to see hoe many gallons per minute they pump. After you have
determined this you can tell how many times in a given period the filtration
system turns the pool over (filters all of the water). A good rule to follow
is to run the system one hour for each 10 degrees of air temerature. It is
best to run the system during the day when the sun is on the pool. this
keeps the chemicals mixed and helps prevent algae from getting a foot hold.
Next thing is you stated you have a DE filter (THE BEST). The filter has a
guage on it that guage is your friend. You should as a general rule take the
filter apart once per year and clean it (twice is better). Once you have done
this and replaced the DE check the pressure. This is your baseline pressure
when the guage reads 8-10 lbs above this backwash the filter and add DE.
When you backwash only add about 50-60% of the full refill amount because the
backwash does not remove add of the DE that is why you take it apart at least
once per year. When you take it apart there is no need to disassemble the
grid assembly. Just remove it and hose it off. Most just lift (with a
little twisting and turning) out. Also there is a small oring on the stand
pipe clean and lube (no petroleum based lubes please) it and the tube that
fits over it. Filtering is 80% of keeping that pool clean if you do not
take care of the filter all the chemicals in the world will not help. Have
fun!
