water mold?

July 12th, 2003 · 1 Comment

This is our first summer owning a pool. It’s an above ground 30′ and about 4 or
5′ deep.
We’ve been using Baquacil, and everything was fine until we left town for a few
days. The pump runs constantly, but when we got home, it needed to be
backwashed. The pool was VERY cloudy. We shocked it, but it still remained
cloudy. Then we noticed some very tiny white stringy stuff in the filter. Then
I got in the pool with goggles on, and you could see very tiny white stuff in
the water floating. Someone told me it is more than likely water mold. If so,
what should we do to get rid of it? It seems like it’s clearing up some now,
but how do I know if it’s gone?

What area of the country to you live in?
It may just be something local to your area…I posted earlier about
stringy white material in the pool & filter that turned out to be
cottonwood (from a tree that the owners didn’t even know was there).
If it is water mold, then I suspect you’ll be using an awful lot of
    peroxide (C).
Get with a local dealer to find out. Be careful, they may just jump
to a conclusion and start selling products like crazy. Get a second
    opinion if need be.
