Brown stains on liner….need help !!

Your local pool store should have a metal stain removal treatment which
should be followed by removal of the water. Shocking the pool will make the
problem worse because the shock may make the copper come out of suspension.
You stated that you disconnected the heater, disconnecting it will not help
the copper is already in the water and changing water chemistry such as a
change in ph or Total Alkalinity may make the copper fall out of suspension
and collect on the pool walls. The reason the copper is there to begin with
is that who ever is caring for the pool is not watching the ph or Total
Alkalinity and the result is the copper in your heat exchanger was erroded
into the pool.
Also be careful if you are draining the pool. If you have a high water table
the pool could float up and damage the structure.
