Sounds like you are having fun with that pool! It does not have to be that
hard and it is not. There are several things to remember, filtering is 80%
of keeping that pool clean and clear, skimp on the run time for the pump and
you will be paying for it ten times over and more is not necessarily better
when it comes to the chemicals so go easy on the copper, that stuff does not
magically disappear from your pool. If the water contains an excess of
copper it could come out of suspension and stain your pool walls or the
people in your pool so go easy.
You neglected to mention what type of filter you have and when was the last
time it was cleaned. For the run time on your pump a good rule is to use one
hour for every ten degrees of air temperature so right now six to seven hours
and in the summer eight to ten. Skimp on the time and you will be buying
more chemicals.
The graduals you spoke of was it Dichlor or Calcium hypochlorite? Your salt
chlorinator breaks down sodiumchloride into sodium and chlorine so the only
time your pool gets chlorine is when the pump is running. The control unit
should also have a boost button or an override to increase the output for
superchlorination (shocking). Two other things about your pool that are
important…when did you last test the cyanuric acid level (stabilizer) and
test the salt level in the pool. If the water does not contain enough salt
the generator cannot function.
Here is a brief list of things you need to work on,
1. type of filter and last time it was cleaned
2. pump run time to 6-7 hours per day (best if run during the day)
3. test salt and stabilizer levels
4. brush pool once per week (yes you have an automatic pool cleaner but it
does not take the place of brushing, only vacuuming)
5. what model of Barracuda do you have?

Is it possible that the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids)is a bit too
high? Chemical fallout, or at least solids falling to the bottom
could be part of the problem.
