Humor & Question…The WalMart Pool Saga or …

We have a well and my husband uses the water from the well to add water to
our pool. Is this a good idea? Will it cause staining?

I take it that you -also- have city water, for which you have to pay.
Well water can often have a lot of minerals in it. In particular, lime
(”hardness”), which can slowly precipitate out, and iron, which can indeed
    cause staining.
City water often comes from surface reservoirs containing rainwater runoff.
Runoff water will, I think, almost always have less dissolved minerals than
    well water.
However, it’s also entirely possible that your city water is coming from a
well. In which case, by all means save the money.
You can try getting a water test done on both sources and see if they’re
actually any different. A pool store can do hardness and iron for free. (But
note, my experience is that the pool store iron tests are too imprecise –
they say I have no significant iron, when actually I do.)

I have well water also, I do not have city water. I am worried about
iron also. What can be used to get rid of the iron? I know my water
is loaded with it. My sinks , toilets… get iron stains all the
time. I use iron out to get rid of the stains in the house but I have
been told iron out can not be used in pools because it is an anti
oxidizer the oppisit of chlorine that is an oxidizer, so the stains
will come right back and will make the chlorine less effective which
is the last thing we want.
I also have a question about algae. My chlorine is high, the PH is
low , yet my pool turned green again. I just don’t get it, maybe I am
not running the filter enough. How long is best to keep the filter
running on a regular bases and is there any other reason why my water
would turn green???? The chlorine was more then a little high when it
went green, it had about 8 times the amount of chlorine needed as far
    as my test kit said.
