New Home needs pool-inground or not????

April 30th, 2003 · 1 Comment

Hello All,
I am planning on a new pool for our new home. Undecided, in-ground or
not? I have had an above ground that was very good, no problems but
would like an in-ground. Can anyone give me a hint as to which brand,
liners, fiberglass or concrete, and such are best or not so good. And
what can I […]

Valve position on Purex DE filter

April 29th, 2003 · 1 Comment

The house I bought has a pool filter with the markings worn off
for ‘Filter’ and ‘Backwash’. My water is cloudy, and I want to be
sure I moved the lever back to ‘Filter’ after backwashing and
cleaning the filter modules. Can anyone tell me if all DE filters
(Purex in particular) have the same position for backwash. On […]

Polaris Pool Cleaner

April 27th, 2003 · 1 Comment

We have an in-ground, cartridge filtered, swimming pool. We use a
Polaris to keep the pool clean. However, crystal clear water has
escaped us. When we use the Polaris, the water is cloudy (clean but
cloudy). When we turn the Polaris off, the water becomes crystal
clear (yea!) but sediment appears on the bottom of the pool and must
be […]

Newbie with Questions

April 26th, 2003 · No Comments

We are considering purchasing an above-ground pool. It is a Doughboy
brand 24′ x 4′ round pool. [It is a used pool and we will be
purchasing a new liner for the pool.] But first I have some
questions that hopefully someone here with more knowledge about pools
than I will be able to answer.

We have a well and my husband uses the water from the well to add water to
our pool. Is this a good idea? Will it cause staining?

Thanx for the welcome and advise!

April 22nd, 2003 · No Comments

Well, I did get the cover on right. I do like the black idea! Here in WA
that would work really well. May have to drape that on top. I’m glad you
all could laugh with me. Ohhh what a head ache. I think things will go
smoother. Have had it covered and pump humming for 48 hour […]

Humor & Question…The WalMart Pool Saga or Tales from the Depths

April 22nd, 2003 · No Comments

Just thought y’all might get a kick or relate to this story.
Last year my teenager decided to sell her clarinet and get a pool.
Aw, what the heck, I’m game.
She saw a pool 15′ X 36″ at WalMart. That was the one. Mind you, we
were on a mini vacation and were about […]

Alternate Chrorinating System

April 20th, 2003 · 2 Comments

I’m a new pool owner (and new to this group), and don’t want
chemicals in the water due to severe asthma/allerges. I’m
considering the EcoSmarte oxygenator/ionizer that supposedly makes
the water more pure than bottled water, costs about $1 per month to
run, and uses zero chemicals. Does anyone have any experience with
this system?
Thanks,
Mike

Fixing plastic liners

April 18th, 2003 · No Comments

If/when I find the leak in my plastic liner, what’s the best way to fix it?
Can I do it myself or do I need to get someone in?
Cheers
Nick.

Help! The green just won’t go away!

April 16th, 2003 · 5 Comments

I checked the water with the test kit, the chlorine is so high the
color on the test is dark red when it should be yellow, the ph is
almost white meaning I have very low ph, I added one gallon of
aleaside, one gallon of clarifier, 5 lbs of stabilzer, vacuumed ,
back washed a few times and […]
