Inground pool+ Me = Hopelessness

January 16th, 2003 · 2 Comments

Hello! I have so many ?? concerning in ground
pools. I just bought a house & will be in it by Nov.
1st. It has a small painted, cement in-ground pool.
It’s filled now & I’d would appreciate any info on how
to winterize it. I don’t know the dimensions of it
yet, but if anyone can me tell what info I need to
gather before someone can write back, please let me know
& I’ll get everything on Fri when I go to
inspection. Having a pool is a life long dream & I wouldn’t
want to do anything to harm my pool!! Thanks for the
help!

YOUR BEST BET IS TO GO TO A POOL STORE AND GET A
SHUT-DOWN KIT. THEY WILL INSTRUCT YOU ON HOW TO USE IT.YOU
NEED TO KNOW THE AMOUNT OF GALLONS IN THE POOL. IF
THEY DONT TELL YOU AT THE INSPECTION, LET ME KNOW AND
I WILL TELL YOU HOW TO FIGURE IT OUT

There’s not usually too much required to
winterise a pool. A long life algicide is usually a good
idea, but if the pool is cold it probably won’t go
    green anyway until the spring.<br
the pump running you need to drain the pipework and
filter tank and perhaps undo one or two pipe joints to
    avoid frost damage.<br
water level a few inches and throw half a dozen 2 litre
pastic bottles, each capped and a quarter full of water
into the pool. These will be crushed if the pool
surface freezes and will prevent damage to the pool shell
as a result of ice expansion. Old footballs also
    work for this.
